The old Todd family bible was printed in MDCCXCI by his Majesty's printers, Mark and Charles Kerr. According to this work
we trace the early lineage of Todds in America. John Sharp Todd was born in 1724. He and his wife Nancy were among
the first to arrive in the "new world." They bore a son named James Todd in 1757. James fought in the American Revolution.
The grandson of James Todd was Colonel Joe B. Todd born in 1822. Joe B. Todd was Colonel of the 98th
North Carolina militia. He fought several battles in the Mexican War. He was also first lieutenant in company D of the 1st North
Carolina cavalry during the Civil War. He served as clerk of Superior Court and was also elected to the Legislature for two terms
in 1872 and 1882. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was highly esteemed by all. The township of Todd, near Boone,
was named in his memory.
Colonel Joe Todd's son William G. Todd was born in 1865 and lived to be 86 years old making him the oldest
native-born citizen of Boone, North Carolina at his death in 1951. William Todd's son, John Carl Todd was born in 1896 and served
in France during WW1. He opened Todd's
Store in Buffalo Cove, North Carolina near Boone in 1924. John Carl Todd's son, Bunah Todd, served proudly in Europe during WW11.
I am the son of Herbert and Mary Miller and grandson of John Carl Todd. My grandmother Pearl Todd had great
influence on me during childhood. She was a wonderful person and a great cook. She cooked many meals on woodburning stoves
before electricity finally came to Buffalo Cove. The cookstove we designed and build certainly has the look of historic American stoves.
I was very proud to name it the Todd.
